The BRUTAL Truth About Digital Modellers

I have owned pretty much every modeler since Roland and Line6 in the ’90s. My daily driver is a Quad Cortex today. I have recently become a fan of Rob Chapman, “again” after a few years of not being one. I like the new him. This is from his YouTube channel.

Digital amp modellers have come a long way, so why can they still feel different from a valve amp in the room? Here are my brutal truths about guitar amp modelling, from cabinet impulse responses and microphone placement to latency, live rigs and finding a tone that works in a band.

I look back at early gear including the Roland GP-100, explain why I enjoy a digital preamp through a real guitar amp, and discuss the practical benefits of taking a modeller on tour. Plus, why thousands of presets can hold you back and why a great bedroom tone might not work at a gig.

AI Companions: Selling Loneliness

We all hear about companies that suffer a “Data Breach”, but most of them expose things like email address, personal details, credit card information, etc. But it can be worse…much worse.

Imagine having a romantic relationship with an AI and sharing VERY intimate details about yourself and having conversations that are meant to be very private. What happens when one of these AI companies has a data breach and your chat logs are released for all to see. It’s like having the world read your diary, but much, much worse.

Every conversation is logged, word for word.

This is just one of the many problems with this kind of service. They are preying on the lonely, and there are a LOT of lonely people.

What is an LLM?

I have said many times that I don’t believe most people have any idea what “AI” is. They throw the term around like experts, but have no idea what it is, or what it actually does. This video covers one facet, LLM’s. Large Language Models. I think you’ll be surprised by what you learn.
